Lesko Legislation

Big Tech’s discriminatory influence in partisan politics has left many Americans without trust or confidence in our election systems. That’s why I was proud to introduce the Political Bias in Algorithm Sorting Emails Act (Political BIAS Emails Act) to prohibit providers of email services from using filtering algorithms to flag emails as spam if they are from political campaigns that consumers have elected to receive.

Get the Facts: CBP One App

Last week, Senator JD Vance raised concerns about something House Republicans have been screaming about from the rooftops since President Biden and our Border Czar, Vice President Kamala Harris, created it – the CBP One App. This application allows migrants wishing to seek asylum in the United States to download the app and schedule appointments to receive asylum status.

Under the Biden/Harris Administration, the U.S. asylum system has been expanded, used, and abused by many migrants often using ineligible reasons for asylum, using aliases, fake paperwork, or other fraudulent information in order to gain entry into the United States. As of August 2024, more than 765,000 asylum seekers scheduled appointments on the app since the app’s creation in January 2023. While some may be coming with legitimate claims, like fear for their life from the country they came from, most are not. Since the bar for allowing initial entry into our country is set so low, most are allowed to enter our country, and because the volume is so high, their court cases to determine if they have a legitimate asylum claim is set for years from now. IF they show up to court, most are declined, but by then they have already been in the U.S. for years.

Overall, the CBP One App has become a very problematic feature of the already chaotic and lackluster border policies of the Biden/Harris Administration with most U.S. Border Patrol agents feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and unable to do their jobs. The time is now to do something about it. The American people cannot continue to bear the burden of the border crisis.

Casework Highlight

A constituent contacted our office for assistance after his monthly retirement pay stopped being paid. Somehow, he had been erroneously marked as deceased in the Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) system. We contacted DFAS about the issue and they investigated and corrected the error. The constituent started receiving his retirement pay again each month.
