Fair, Independent State Supreme Court
We know all too well how an extremist Supreme Court at the federal level can have grave impacts on our rights and liberties.
This election, Ohio’s Supreme Court will have tremendous sway over whether the courts protect fundamental rights, adhere to legal and judicial norms, and uphold the rule of all for all Ohioans.
Here’s why: The GOP’s majority on this court is just a narrow 4-3, but it became more conservative last year with the retirement of a moderate Republican — and the appointment of a conservative prosecutor.
Three seats are on the ballot this year, two held by Democrats and one by the GOP, so the court could shift in either direction. If Republicans sweep the election, they’ll have a 6-1 majority in 2025.
We can't let that happen, John. But it’s not too late to support our movement in Ohio and other key battleground states. As Ohioans head to the polls, send in your donation to the NDRC so we can continue our urgent work. [[link removed]] Three Races Will Impact the Rights & Lives of Ohioans
The stakes couldn’t be higher when it comes to securing a pro-democracy majority on the Ohio Supreme Court.
Implementation of last year’s referendum protecting abortion hangs in the balance, which some 57% of Ohioans voted for. A wide variety of anti-abortion laws still remain on the books, and will be litigated in cases that will wind up at the Ohio Supreme Court.
Several redistricting cases are expected to land on the docket of the Supreme Court in the next couple of years — and those decisions will impact how Ohioans vote for years, even decades to come.
Put simply, Ohio is a key state in our strategy to change the trajectory of democracy in November. Electing Justice Donnelly, Justice Stewart, and Judge Forbes to the Ohio Supreme Court is essential to making sure we have a balanced, independent, and fair-minded court.
Help us continue our work building a firewall that will protect democracy in Ohio and in states across the country. Make your donation today as Ohioans head to the polls to ensure we can reach more voters with our pro-democracy message. [[link removed]]
