Friend,

During this time, it has become clear that, in order for people to stay healthy, everyone must do their part to protect vulnerable community members. Though we each have a role to play, we recognize that there are some who go above and beyond in taking care of others: Mamas.

We at URGE: Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity are thrilled to collaborate with Forward Together on their 2020 <[link removed]>Mama’s Day <[link removed]> campaign. For 10 years, Forward Together has hosted  Mama’s Day to <[link removed]> celebrate families who exist outside the restrictive binary of the Western nuclear family and concept of “motherhood.” They work with artists to reimagine narratives of mamahood and to find ways to honor mamas of every background on Mother’s Day. URGE and Forward Together share an expansive, inclusive vision of mamahood that embraces mamas of all kinds, regardless of whether they’re biological, chosen, transparent, aunties, siblings, or grandmas.

This year, Forward Together held their first-ever Cultural Strategy Lab to expand their Mama’s Day campaign. During the lab, Forward Together, along with URGE, Fanm Saj <[link removed]>, Southern Birth Justice Network, <[link removed]> and cultural workers Iman Geddy <[link removed]> and Hunter Ashleigh Shackelford, <[link removed]> created  projects that center the diversity of mamahood and spread the Mama’s Day message across the country.

Date: Sunday, May 10

Time: 3:00 PM EST / 2:00 PM CST

As a young people’s reproductive justice organization, URGE chose to highlight young mamas in our southern states of Georgia and Texas. Our short video series honors the experiences of three young mamas of color: Gissel Arredondo (she/they/ella/elle), Shakera Cheston (she/her), & Angel Gabrielle Alicea (she/her). In these videos, they shared their wisdom, regrets, and the extent of their love as young mamas.

Please join us, on Sunday, May 10th, 3:00PM EST / 2:00PM CST for our URGE Mama’s Day Brunch, celebrating our three mama’s!  We will premiere their videos as well as create a space for community and connection. <[link removed]>
