Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan celebrated the twelfth annual Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener in Sleepy Eye and Brown County. The weekend included a public lands celebration, community gathering, hunters’ breakfast, and a post-hunt lunch.
"As a lifelong hunter and Pheasants Forever member, I look forward to this weekend all year," said Governor Walz. "Hunting is a time-honored tradition in Minnesota that boosts our tourism economy and brings folks together outdoors. Thanks to the conservation work of Minnesota Pheasants Forever members, we’re ensuring this sport will be passed on to new generations. I’m wishing all Minnesotans a safe and successful hunting season."
"It was a wonderful weekend to celebrate the Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener and showcase the best of Minnesota: our deep traditions, beautiful public lands, and strong outdoor recreation industry," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. "I’m grateful to the Sleepy Eye community for showing such hospitality and hosting a very successful opener."
Governor Walz highlighted the life-saving work of the Minnesota National Guard and emergency responders who are providing emergency assistance to North Carolina and South Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene and Florida in the wake of Hurricane Milton. Governor Walz has issued two executive orders directing the Minnesota National Guard to provide immediate emergency assistance. The state is constantly monitoring the need for additional support.
"Minnesota will provide every resource we can to support communities across the south that have been devastated by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton," said Governor Walz. "In this time of crisis, Minnesota’s citizen soldiers and first responders have demonstrated unyielding dedication. Their efforts are making a critical difference, helping impacted areas with everything from debris removal to moving food and medical supplies."
Governor Walz announced $52 million in grants to expand broadband access to an estimated 7,700 homes and businesses throughout Minnesota.
"Investing in broadband infrastructure benefits businesses and communities across the state," said Governor Walz. "By connecting thousands of Minnesotans to businesses, education, and health care through broadband, we’re making Minnesota the best place to work, live, and do business."
Earlier this year, Governor Walz announced over $50 million to expand broadband access to an estimated 8,900 homes and businesses throughout Minnesota. In May 2023, Governor Walz signed legislation providing $100 million to the state’s broadband grant funding program for the biennium.
