John,

Many people have found the Netflix series “Tiger King” to be a fascinating diversion during the COVID-19 crisis, including my family and me. But we can’t let the bizarre human drama of this show overshadow the very real policy issues it raises.

As the chairman of the House subcommittee in charge of wildlife policy, I actually have a brief cameo in “Tiger King,” where I’m shown at a hearing for the Big Cat Public Safety Act. This bill is designed to both protect the welfare of these animals and ensure the safety of the general public.

I know there is a lot going on right now in our country, but I wanted to make sure you knew about this important issue. Please take a moment to sign this petition in support of the Big Cat Public Safety Act. Tell my colleagues in Congress that we need to take action to protect big cats and the communities where they’re being held.

In some states, it’s easier to buy a tiger than to adopt a dog from an animal shelter. And unfortunately, this lack of regulation has led to far too many bad actors abusing the system and threatening the well-being of these precious animals.

Congress obviously has a lot of front-burner issues to tackle during this pandemic but I am hoping that once we have returned to regular business and have addressed the public health crisis and economic calamity, we’ll be able to pass the Big Cat Public Safety Act without delay. I need your help to make that case.

You can help stop these cruel practices by signing this petition right now. Tell lawmakers to vote in favor of protecting tigers, a critically endangered species, and other big cats.

Thanks,
