Notes from Mike's Desk

Hello, friends! Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter highlighting what's happening on Capitol Hill and in Louisiana's 4th Congressional District. I'm always grateful when you recommend this resource to others.

DISASTER RELIEF

On Wednesday, I visited Western North Carolina to meet with first responders and families impacted by Hurricane Helene, which devastated communities in the Southeast two weeks ago. While touring the damage and meeting with first responders, we reassured residents, families, and small business owners that they will not be forgotten. Disaster relief is a necessary and appropriate function of the federal government, and Congress will do its’ part to help these communities recover.

Along every stop, we have been amazed by the work of our heroic first responders, volunteers, churches, and private organizations. With their diligent and continued efforts, these communities will build back, stronger than ever. The people there have suffered and lost so much, but they are resilient, and embody the indomitable American spirit. Click here to watch our press conference from Asheville, NC.

Our prayers are with all of those affected by Hurricane Milton, which swept across Florida, devastating the Tampa-Sarasota area this week. The damages across Florida will be assessed, and Congress will promptly act and provide the necessary funds for hurricane recovery.

Our prayers and support are with every American community impacted by these storms.

HIGHLIGHTS

It's been a year since the world watched in horror as Hamas terrorists carried out their barbaric attack on innocent Israelis in the worst assault on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Nearly 1,200 people were brutally killed, 251 were kidnapped, and countless others were beaten and raped.

As Hamas continues to hold hostages in Gaza, including four Americans, we remember the families who are fighting to bring their loved ones home. These brave families inspire us all to stand with Israel in its fight against terror and to work for the swift return of all those held captive by Hamas.

The terror and antisemitism we’ve witnessed have demanded full resolve from America’s leaders, which is why Congress passed legislation in the spring to provide Israel with necessary military aid and support. Today, at this critical time, following a second direct attack by Iran and ongoing terror from Hezbollah, Americans must insist that the Biden-Harris Administration stand unequivocally with Israel and against the terrorist regime in Iran. Let us continue to pray for peace and security in Israel. Watch our memorial video here.

IN THE MEDIA

I sat for a number of television and radio interviews to discuss House Republicans' accomplishments, the October 7th attacks, and the impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Additionally, last week, I became the second House Speaker to address the New York Stock Exchange and present our economic vision under a Republican administration. See below for a collection of those conversations. Click the images to watch, and check our YouTube channel for more.

LAGNIAPPE

In remembrance of the one year anniversary of the October 7th Hamas attacks on Israel, the North Louisiana Jewish Federation came together in solidarity to pray for lives lost and those still held hostage. In this year marked by tragedy, we are grateful to those who continue to advocate for peace and the return of all hostages.

The Shreveport Fire Department received the Mission: Lifeline Silver status award for their outstanding EMS performance of treating, transporting, and saving heart attack victims. This award is a testament to the Shreveport Fire Department’s undeniable commitment to saving and protecting lives. The people of Shreveport are well-served by these great men and women.
