As a mother to my daughter, Allie, the weekend of International Day of the Girl is especially poignant for me. Election years remind us of how crucial IGNITE’s work is in helping our girls shape their own futures. We are empowering girls with confidence by giving them opportunities to advocate for positive change. We are introducing girls to women currently serving their communities in political roles, providing clear examples of the types of leaders girls can aspire to be.

I personally witness Allie navigating politics in her own way at the age of nine. When she accompanied me to IGNITE the Capitol Sacramento earlier this year, she felt inspired by the young women writing bills and using their voices to advocate for the causes they are passionate about.

Allie knows she is among countless powerful women. Whether she is discussing beach cleanup with her troop or organizing a Kindness Rock Garden at her school, seeing women lead through IGNITE has strengthened Allie's confidence and courage. Girls are never too young to learn that they have political power. Allie even runs her own election every November to help her friends get into the practice of voting!
