Email from Rep. McBath Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, I hope that you and your family are doing well. Over the past two weeks, our state has experienced extraordinarily difficult times due to the heavy rain and wind from Hurricane Helene. While I am grateful that our district was spared from the worst of this storm, I know that many of our fellow Georgians are still hurting. If you or your loved ones were impacted, know that help is available for you. Along with every member of the Georgia delegation, I sent a letter to President Biden requesting swift approval of Georgia's federal disaster declaration and to ensure that our state has everything it needs to respond to this weather event. To learn more about available federal assistance, you can visit DisasterAssistance.gov. Here are a few things I want to share from my office during the last month: Gwinnett County will receive over $1 million for safer roads! At the beginning of September, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced the award of $1.6 million to the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation for a Safe Streets and Roads for All grant. I was proud to request funding for this initiative in a letter of support to Secretary Pete Buttigieg in May. To learn more about this funding, click here. My bill to combat hazing on college campuses is one step closer to becoming law. Before the start of the October District Work Period, I helped secure passage of H.R. 5646, the bipartisan Stop Campus Hazing Act. I know the pain of losing a child, and I have been heartbroken to learn the stories of parents who lost their children to hazing. This legislation will strengthen national standards for data collection and reporting so that we can put a stop to these tragedies once and for all. It was an extraordinary honor to be recognized as the best congressional office for constituent services. In September, I received recognition by the Congressional Management Foundation for outstanding public service by being named the Best Congressional Office for Constituent Service. My team and I are constantly working to implement new and innovative ways to serve you and our shared community. I want to thank each and every constituent who allows us to walk alongside you in your time of need. It is the honor of my lifetime to serve you in Congress. For high school students interested in attending a U.S. Service Academy next fall: don't miss the deadline to apply for a nomination from my office! As a Member of Congress, I can nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies (the U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require congressional nominations). All applications for the class of 2029 must be completed via the form on my website and your three reference letters must be submitted no later than 11:59 pm this Sunday, October 13th! Thank you for your interest in serving our country. Thank you for taking the time to read this update. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with my office.
