Preview of my weekend reading list

In The Adventure of Silver Blaze, Sherlock Holmes solves the mystery surrounding the disappearance of a racehorse by noting that the watchdog guarding the stable did not bark — suggesting the guilty party was known to the dog. The lesson is that sometimes the best evidence is contained in what did not happen — when the dog does not bark.

As we head into the final weeks of the election, we are flooded with stories about frenetic events: campaign rallies, political advertisements, lawsuits and administrative actions. But equally important are the things that aren’t happening, the rules that are — for better or worse — not changing. They are the dogs that did not bark that might, in fact, be the best evidence of what is happening.

So, sit back, tell your pups to be quiet and let’s take a look at the most important news that you probably overlooked last week.
