Hi John,
My name is Amanda Litman, the co-founder of Run for Something (RFS) and I want to personally welcome you to the Run for Something team!
By now, you’ve already heard from David Burd on our merger with Ascend and you’ve probably read about our plans to support state legislative candidates running in 2020 and beyond (if you haven’t, click here for a quick recap!)
A quick overview of who we are and what we do, if you’re new to us: Run for Something recruits folks who want to run and provides local candidates with hands-on support that guides their campaign from beginning to end. This includes mentorship for candidates, strategic campaign support, connections to resources and trainings, links to skilled volunteers and high profile press opportunities, and so much more.
In three years, we’ve endorsed more than 1000 candidates with a 33 percent win rate. Of the candidates we’ve endorsed, 46 percent are women, 43 percent are candidates of color, and 18 percent identify as LGBTQ+. As we enter into unfamiliar terrain in 2020, our ability to support diverse candidates, remain flexible, and provide crucial services at critical junctures will be more important than ever.
Our merger with Ascend is a prime example of how progressives can -- and will -- win in 2020. The new RFS Ascend program will provide high-impact donations to deserving endorsed candidates, starting in 2020 with Pennsylvania and Texas state legislative elections.
Going forward, you’ll be hearing from the RFS team on our candidates and ways to get involved and contribute. To learn more about our organization, check out our website or follow us on Twitter for regular updates.
We look forward to working with you in 2020!
Stay safe and healthy,
Amanda Litman
