Hi Friend,
I wanted to introduce myself in case you haven’t met me on the campaign trail. I’m Alyse’s husband, Pat.
Alyse and I met 33 years ago playing floor hockey. Her determination and drive on the field were intimidating, and it took me three months to build up the courage to ask her out on a date. I remember just a few hours into that evening thinking about how she could make me a better person just by being around her. We have now been married for over 30 years, and in that time I have watched her make the world a better place starting with our four wonderful kids. Every day I’m inspired by her willingness to take on tough challenges, and I’ve never been more proud of her than I am today as she takes on the rich and powerful to fight for everyday Alaskans.
Let me tell you a little bit about my wife because she actually doesn’t like to talk about herself. She resists telling the stories from her childhood because she feels like its complaining, and she knows that too many children have similar stories. She watched her parents struggle with addiction and the many issues that come with it, resulting in multiple broken homes and neglect. Like many kids in those circumstances, Alyse had to grow up fast and fight for her family members, and it’s given her a profound sense of perspective, conditioning her to take on challenges no one else will.
When we talked as a family about running for Congress, we knew there would be a lot of sacrifices we’d have to make. But even though we know the road will be hard, we are confident that this decision is the right one. I am so incredibly lucky to have met and married Alyse, and though we’ll spend a lot of time apart during this campaign, I am excited for so many of you to meet her in person.
Alyse is ready to step up as the independent voice Alaska needs right now.
What makes Alyse special is that despite her difficult upbringing, she was able to not just break the cycle, but turn around and fight for those who face similar issues here in Alaska. She knows that her story is not unique, and she takes both little and big steps to tackle the challenges that people in similar situations face across this state.
Alyse’s strength and determination are just two of the many reasons why my wife impresses and amazes me every day. I know that as your Congresswoman she will do the same for you. Whether it is by providing affordable healthcare, addressing climate change, or fighting for public education, Alyse will get the job done.
Will you join me in supporting Alyse’s grassroots campaign by making a donation today?
Thank you,
Pat Galvin
