A huge victory for the climate - won over decades

Thanks to supporters like you, the era of UK coal is over. The last coal-fired power station, Ratcliffe-on-Soar, has closed after decades of climate activism to stop polluting coal plants in the UK. You might recall when six Greenpeace activists climbed Kingsnorth in Kent to protest new coal projects. 

At the time, the UK government planned several coal-fired power stations, but Greenpeace and other groups successfully challenged these plans. By 2010, the Kingsnorth project was shelved, and by 2015, political parties agreed to phase out coal. 

And now the last coal power station has closed, with every worker leaving with a career plan to ensure a just transition. This wouldn’t be possible without your support. 

Why Greenpeace shut down Dove HQ

Last month, activists shut down the headquarters of Dove’s parent company Unilever.

New report exposes the environmental impact of the fast fashion industry

A new investigation by Greenpeace Africa uncovers that 500,000 items of clothing waste from Accra’s Kantamanto market are discarded in open spaces and informal dumpsites each week.  

Additionally, it was uncovered that significant volumes of textile waste are also collected from Kantamanto Market and burnt as fuel to boil water for a number of public wash houses.

Air samples collected by Greenpeace show that the ambient air of the three public baths was contaminated with numerous dangerous chemical substances such as carcinogens.

Victory! Win for the Munduruku Indigenous People and for the Amazon

In case you missed it, we celebrated a significant victory! The Sawré Muybu Indigenous Land in the heart of Brazil’s Amazon has finally been officially recognised. Spanning an area the size of 250,000 football fields, this land is rich in biodiversity and home to the Munduruku Indigenous People. 

For years, it has faced threats from mining, illegal logging, and infrastructure projects, making its recognition a triumph for Indigenous rights and Amazon protection.

Thank you to everyone who over the last ten years signed the petition, donated, shared the story with friends and family - you played your part in supporting Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities fighting for their rights around the world.

How your support enables political campaigning

Earlier this month, the UK government signed the Bridge to Busan declaration, joining 39 high-ambition countries calling for production cuts in the Global Plastics Treaty.

This is the first bold commitment on plastic production we’ve seen from this government and could signal a positive shift. 

Securing nations' signatures on the Bridge has been a key Greenpeace focus since the last round of talks. And this wouldn’t have been possible without your support. Thanks to your support, our UK team pushed this forward through letters, briefings, and lobbying. 

As we approach the historic INC5 negotiations, we’ll keep pressing the government to aim higher and seize this critical opportunity to end plastic pollution.

Cinema tickets for supporters

Love movies? Greenpeace is partnering with 'Escapes' who offer free cinema tickets to exclusive pre-release showings at over 150  independent cinemas nationwide, every month.  Many of the venues will also feature a short Greenpeace film ahead of screenings. 

Simply sign up to the Escapes mailing list to be notified of upcoming events and secure your tickets. This great initiative is supported by BFI & National Lottery Good Causes.
