John,
The coronavirus crisis has shown the world something that you've always known: that care work is essential work.
So today, we're doing something special to stand with the incredible women who care for our families, our homes, and our communities. It's called the #RosieChallenge, inspired by and modernizing Rosie the Riveter -- the iconic World War II-era image that symbolized how strong women were keeping this country running, just as they are today.
Here's what to do:
-
Take a selfie in a "Rosie the Riveter" pose, like my example below. No need to make it fancy -- you can use the camera on your phone or computer!
-
Post your selfie to your Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter account to show the world that you stand with caregivers and domestic workers. Be sure to include the hashtag #CareForAll in your post.
-
Tag three friends in your post, and ask them to show their support with a selfie of their own! We need as many people as possible to participate, to demonstrate the power of our movement for dignity and fairness for domestic workers.
Here's some sample language you can use:
Today, I accept the #RosieChallenge from @domesticworkers because we can't get through this crisis without our caregivers, nannies, and house cleaners, who are doing essential work where the frontlines start: in our homes. [@tag], [@tag], [@tag], show us your Rosie pose! #CareForAll
This is a fun way to get involved at a very critical moment, John. As you read this, Congress is deciding the details of the next coronavirus relief package, and whether it will provide desperately needed help for the caregivers, nannies, and house cleaners who are on the front lines of this crisis, keeping the country running.
Domestic workers have been intentionally excluded from many basic labor protections, and it needs to change -- now. We're fighting for stronger protections and benefits; free COVID testing and care; ongoing cash assistance that is inclusive of all working families; and more. We're fighting to make Congress #CareForAll.
That starts with showing off our strength, and showing how many of us are counting on Congress to
care for the people who care for us. So please, take the #RosieChallenge to stand with care workers and domestic workers today, and remind the world that domestic work is essential work!
Sincerely,
Ai-jen Poo, Executive Director
