Dominion Energy Resource Plan Falls Short on Implementing Virginia’s New Clean Energy Law ([link removed] )
This week, Virginia AEE reacted to the Integrated Resource Plan filed by Dominion Energy late Friday. The plan comes three weeks after Governor Northam signed the historic Virginia Clean Economy Act (VCEA), legislation that requires Dominion Energy meet the Commonwealth’s energy demand it serves with 100% clean energy by 2045. “When compared with prior IRPs, this Dominion Energy plan presents a step forward, with real plans for the deployment of solar, onshore and offshore wind, and energy storage. That’s a credit to the work of lawmakers and advocates for advanced energy,” said Harry Godfrey. “Unfortunately, this plan also projects higher costs for customers, few of which are attributable to the VCEA. By double-counting investments already made or committed to and failing to maximize customer cost savings from energy efficiency, Dominion presents an energy future that looks more expensive than it needs to be.” Click here to continue reading the press release> ([link removed] )

In 1999, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 7, opening up the Lone Star State’s electricity market to competition. Since then, Texas has been at the forefront of energy innovation. Now, nearly 20 years later, distributed energy resources (DERs) are the cutting edge of energy innovation, continuing the two-decade process of making the Texas grid more secure, clean, reliable, and affordable. With the COVID-19 public health crisis changing where and how we use electricity, just as it has changed where we work and how we learn, DERs couldn’t have come along at a better time. DERs produce power, manage electricity demand, and provide valuable grid services. These resources — including rooftop solar, energy storage, electric vehicles, and energy efficiency — are typically smaller, flexible, and capable of decreasing overall electricity demand. Opportunity in the Old Dominion: What the Virginia Clean Economy Act Means for Business ([link removed] )

On April 11, Gov. Ralph Northam signed the Virginia Clean Economy Act (VCEA), making Virginia the first state in the Southeast United States to commit to 100% clean energy and setting 2045 as the target for reaching that goal. The new law sets specific requirements for energy efficiency, renewable energy (onshore and offshore), energy storage, and more. This makes Virginia, long a laggard in energy policy, a prime target for advanced energy growth, providing savings for consumers and jobs and investment for the Commonwealth. In this webinar, one of the legislative patrons of the VCEA and representatives of advanced energy companies will discuss how the Act came to fruition and the opportunities for industry growth and economic benefit made possible by this landmark new law.
