Our friends over at Americans for Tax Fairness just released a shocking new report that has exposed the true level of influence billionaires have over our political system.

They found that just 150 billionaire families have already spent almost $1.4 billion on the 2024 elections ― that’s more than billionaires spent over the entire course of the 2020 elections.

Nearly two-thirds of this billionaire money has been contributed to extreme right-wing candidates who support tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy — while neglecting the rights and economic security of everyday Americans.

This is blatant corruption, and shows that billionaires are buying our elections. In the long term, this will lead to even further economic inequity and perpetuate a tax system rigged in favor of the wealthy. Extreme Republican candidates are being bought by billionaires, and if this continues, we could see major attacks on voting rights, opposition to workers' rights and fair wages, and drastic cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

We cannot allow billionaires to buy our democracy. Please, sign on and urge Congress to overturn Citizens United and pass the Billionaire Minimum Income Tax.

These two critical actions could help us stop this trend of corruption and prevent economic inequity from increasing even further:

1. Congress must overturn Citizens United: It’s time to pass a constitutional amendment and end unlimited corporate & billionaire spending in our elections.
2. Congress must pass the Billionaire Minimum Income Tax (BMIT): This would ensure the wealthiest Americans pay at least a 25% tax rate on their total income, including unrealized capital gains. The BMIT would raise hundreds of billions of dollars for public investments and reduce the amount of excess wealth used to influence our elections.

We need to make sure Congress takes action immediately. Billionaires are tightening their grip on our political system every day, and the impact of their corruption could have devastating consequences for years to come. Acting now is essential to protecting the integrity of our democratic processes.
