Ohio Governor Mike DeWine requested [ [link removed] ] that the Small Business Administration (SBA) provide low-interest loans to businesses impacted by the explosion at the Realty Building on East Federal Street in Youngstown in May. 

"The building explosion caused significant economic injury to its neighboring downtown businesses," wrote Governor DeWine in a letter sent to the SBA. "At least five small businesses in the disaster area have suffered substantial economic injury as a result of the disaster and are in need of financial assistance not otherwise available on reasonable terms."

In honor of the life and service of former Congressman Dave Hobson, Governor DeWine ordered [ [link removed] ] the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio to be lowered upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Champaign, Clark, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Greene, Logan, Perry, Pickaway, Ross, and Union counties as well as, the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center, and the Rhodes State Office Tower until Friday, October 11. The flags will be lowered again from sunrise to sunset on the day of Hobson's funeral.

Ohio Public University Boards of Trustees Symposium [ [link removed] ]

Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted spoke at the Ohio Public University Boards of Trustees Symposium in Columbus.

Governor DeWine activated [ [link removed] ] a team of more than three dozen members of the Ohio National Guard to support the state of Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. 

“As Florida recovers from one hurricane and braces for another, Ohio is answering the call to help Governor DeSantis and the entire state," said Governor DeWine. "Forty members of the 200th REDHORSE Squadron are proactively heading to Florida in advance of what is expected to be another catastrophic storm."

The Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineer (REDHORSE) is the Ohio Air National Guard's civil engineering unit based in Port Clinton. Upon arrival to Florida, Airmen will conduct assessments of needed support, help clean up storm debris from public property, and provide other recovery and relief operations in hard-hit areas of the state.

Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] the appointment of Gerald Anderson ll to the Muskingum County Court of Common Pleas, General Division.  

Anderson, of Zanesville, will assume office on October 21, 2024, and will be taking the seat formerly held by Judge Mark Fleegle, who retired. He will serve the remainder of the unfinished term and will need to run for election in November 2026 to retain the seat.

Hospital groundbreaking in Belpre [ [link removed] ]

Governor DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine join community leaders, participating in a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction on a new women and children’s hospital at Memorial Health System’s Belpre Medical Campus.

Governor DeWine joined [ [link removed] ] healthcare and community leaders from southeast Ohio for a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction on a new women and children’s hospital at Memorial Health System’s Belpre Medical Campus.

The facility will be southeast Ohio’s only women and children’s hospital.

“This is a welcome and needed addition for thousands of women, mothers, babies, and children across our Appalachian region,” said Governor DeWine. “Expectant mothers with high-risk pregnancies, babies born prematurely, or others in need of specialized healthcare supports will no longer be forced to travel an hour or more to get medical care in an unfamiliar place. This new hospital will bring these lifesaving supports closer to home.”

Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved his request for federal support for businesses impacted by an explosion earlier this year in Youngstown.  

On Monday, Governor DeWine sent a letter to the SBA [ [link removed] ] requesting the activation of the Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program for businesses impacted by the explosion at the Realty Building on East Federal Street in May.

Urban Transit Grants [ [link removed] ]

Governor DeWine and Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Director Pamela Boratyn announced [ [link removed] ] more than $23 million in funding support for urban transit entities across the state.

As part of ODOT's Urban Transit Program [ [link removed] ], $23.1 million will be awarded among Ohio's 26 urban transit agencies. Funding will be used for a variety of purposes such as transit fleet expansion, replacement vehicles, preventative maintenance, facility upgrades, new equipment and technology, and operating assistance.

“Public transportation is an important part of our communities,” said Governor DeWine. “These funds help ensure public transit remains an option for the hundreds of thousands of Ohioans who rely on it daily.”
