Email from Rep. Hinson Friend, Just over one year ago on October 7th, 2023, the world witnessed pure evil when Hamas terrorists ended the ceasefire that was in place and brutally attacked Israel – slaughtering both Israeli and American civilians and taking others hostage. The Harris-Biden doctrine of appeasement has emboldened Iran and its terrorist proxies, freeing up funding for their acts of terrorism and enabling the regime in Tehran to significantly advance its nuclear capacity without consequence. As Israel continues to fend off terrorist attacks and anti-Semitism continues to rise, I will continue standing with Israel and the Jewish community around the world. It is past time we return to peace through strength and bring every single hostage home. Best, Expanding Access to Safe Birth Control Options for Women in Rural Areas Adult women should be able to easily access safe birth control. Unfortunately, women in rural areas have fewer options. Clinics that receive Title X funding offer women the full range of pregnancy preventing contraception, including long-acting reversible contraception (LARCs), onsite at much higher rates than community clinics and CHCs that do not receive Title X funding. This inequality in access to the most effective FDA-approved pregnancy preventing contraception leaves many who live in health care deserts unable to receive long-acting birth control such as IUDs or arm implants. That's why I introduced the Access to LARCs Act to help close this gap and ensure more adult women have more safe birth control options readily available to help plan their families. I have heard from women across Iowa and I will continue proposing commonsense solutions to improve women's health care access. Read more on this legislation and my work to expand access to birth control for adult women here. Sumner Daycare & Learning Center I toured the new Sumner Daycare & Learning Center and joined the team for a ribbon-cutting! It was amazing to see the community come together to solve their child care challenges! I’m proud to have secured federal funding to bring this project to fruition, allowing them to expand and serve more families! Child Care Roundtable with VGM Since opening in November 2023, VGM’s on-campus child care has been life-changing for families. I enjoyed touring the center and hearing from other Cedar Valley providers and employers investing in child care. This is the innovation we need to improve child care access across Iowa! Art Farm Iowa Art Farm Iowa is combining art with agriculture in unique ways, bringing people from across the country to Northwood for this one-of-a-kind experience! It was very cool to see their latest installations and see how they’re driving tourism in Iowa. Child Care Roundtable with Iowa Women’s Foundation The Iowa Women's Foundation is leading the charge in developing creative solutions for child care access. Driven by strong public-private partnerships, they are making a real impact for families and strengthening our communities. Howard County Regional Health Services Clinic Expansion Howard County Regional Health Services Clinic provides patients with a wide range of services, including emergency assistance and maternal care. I toured their new expansion and learned more about their work to ensure rural communities have access to quality care. Waukon Main Street Tour I enjoyed touring Waukon’s lively Main Street! I had the opportunity to meet with small business owners to discuss ways we can support Waukon’s workforce, fight inflation, and ensure Main Street businesses thrive. Investing in IA-02: Eldora Water and Wastewater Improvement Project I will always advocate for investments in our rural communities. I am proud to have secured $1,000,000 for Eldora’s Wastewater Improvement Project to improve water quality for families and businesses in Eldora.
