Loudermilk Joins Letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland Demanding DOJ Accountability for Lack of Response to Election Integrity Concerns | Washington D.C. (October 4, 2024) | Recently, Rep. Barry Loudermik (GA-11) joined Rep. Andy Biggs (AZ-5) and Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) in a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding accountability for the Department of Justice's (DOJ) failure to prevent illegal aliens from registering to vote on American elections or prosecute those who evidently have done so. Earlier this year, Rep. Loudermilk joined 60 of his House and Senate colleagues in a letter inquiring about the measures that have been taken by the DOJ to safeguard American elections from being hijacked by illegal aliens. That initial inquiry, dated July 12, 2024, received no response from the DOJ. “We are deeply concerned by reports of non-citizens registering to vote and voting in federal elections,” the Members of Congress wrote. “As of today, there has been no response from you or your Department regarding the inquiry on July 12, 2024, seeking information on efforts undertaken by your Department to enforce laws prohibiting non-citizen voting. Given that the 2024 Presidential Election is in less than 34 days, your Department’s inaction and refusal to provide any information regarding its efforts to promote public trust and confidence in our elections is especially alarming.” “Clearly, there is a non-negligible amount of voter participation by non-citizens in federal elections, which is not only a serious threat to the integrity of our elections and the democratic process they represent, but also has the potential to reduce Americans’ trust and confidence in election results,” the Members of Congress continued. State officials across the country have recently taken steps to prevent, deter, and investigate cases of illegal voter registration by non-citizens, including in Georgia, South Carolina, Ohio, and Tennessee. Since the Members of Congress sent their initial July 12th letter, cases have emerged in the states of Virginia and Texas. House cosigners of this letter include: Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA), Rep. Loudermilk Joins Congressional Letter Putting Federal Agency on Notice for Violating the Law | Washington D.C. (October 9, 2024) | This week, Rep. Barry Loudermilk (GA-11) joined a bipartisan, bicameral letter led by Reps. Chris Smith (NJ-4), Eric Burlison (MO-7), and Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) admonishing them for violating federal law that prohibits congressional health plans from subsidizing elective abortion. The letter comes on the heels of reports that Aetna – currently the sole provider of congressional-eligible plans that comply with the Smith Amendment by excluding coverage of elective abortion – will stop offering plans on Washington D.C.'s Affordable Care Act exchange known as DC Health Link. Congressional Members and staff have been advised that only two plans that do not cover elective abortion will be made available for the upcoming year. “It is a clear violation of the Smith Amendment for health plans available to Members and staff to offer elective abortion,” wrote the 22 House Members and 4 Senators, who noted the provision — which was first authored by Rep. Chris Smith — has been renewed annually for nearly 30 years. "Under the Smith Amendment, OPM is prohibited from engaging in administrative activity in connection with any plan that subsidizes elective abortion, let alone almost all of them," the lawmakers continued. "The severity of OPM's specious implementation of – or perhaps malicious disregard for – the law must be finally and permanently remedied and brought into compliance with congressional intent," the lawmakers wrote. As a result of Aetna's withdrawal from the exchange, Members of Congress and staff enrolled in Aetna plans will be forced to select new health plans during the upcoming "open season," which is scheduled for November 11 through December 9, 2024.
