On October 7, 2023 more than 1,200 men, women and children, including 46 Americans were brutally slaughtered by Hamas across the nation of Israel – the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. To this day, there are still an unknown number of hostages being held in Hamas’ tunnel system.
One year after the horrors of October 7 we must confront the chilling reality -- this isn't just a conflict between Israel and Palestine, but an Iranian war against Israel. The lessons are clear: failure to address Iran's role will only deepen the crisis.
Iran's nuclear program is the greatest existential threat to Israel. After 300+ Iranian ballistic missiles have been fired at Israel since April, it's a grave worry that the next time the Israelis see a ballistic missile aimed at them, there might be a nuclear weapon under the nose cone.
Those who oppose Israel's right to defend itself are taking sides with Hamas: the Iranian-backed barbaric terrorist organization that is vehemently against democracy and freedom. Hamas is committing war crimes by using the people of Gaza as a shield. This is the group the Far-Left has been pressuring Biden to assist, and in many ways he has complied.
The chances of Hamas honoring any commitment to a ceasefire and hostage exchange deal are zero. Hamas has been lying about how many hostages are still alive. Israel has a full to-do list: finish the job by eliminating Hamas and Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
What Hamas did to innocent Israeli civilians on October 7th and every day after is infamous for its outright barbarity and savagery. It's the very definition of terrorism. Sadly, one year later, many Westerners still fail to grasp the full implications of the Iran-Hamas devastation. |

Driving the Week: I wrote an op-ed for The Daily Telegraph on the anniversary of October the 7th. Below is an excerpt:
October 7, 2023, is truly “a day which will live in infamy,” to borrow Franklin Roosevelt’s memorable description of Japan’s December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor. But what Hamas did to innocent Israeli civilians on October 7 and thereafter is more infamous for its outright barbarity, savagery committed with malice aforethought, the very definition of terrorism. Stunningly, however, and sadly, many Westerners, one year later, still fail to grasp the full implications of the Iran-Hamas attempted holocaust.

October 7 initiated Iran’s “Ring of Fire” strategy against Israel, “the little Satan.” The immediate response from Iran’s Western media and think-tank apologists was to deny Iran’s central role. They pointed to US intelligence that elements of Iran’s leadership were unaware Hamas was about to blitz Israel. They argued there was no “smoking gun” evidence of Tehran’s command-and-control over the Hamas terrorists. But even if these assertions are true, they do not refute the obvious logic and reality of Tehran’s responsibility.

Why should anyone expect that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which takes orders directly from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, would tell anyone in Iran who didn’t have an urgent “need to know” what was to happen? The Quds Force and its ilk are not exactly communicative; they are not like US or other Western bureaucracies. Among those quite likely kept in the dark would be Iran’s foreign ministry and even higher authorities.

Iran’s October 1, 2024, barrage of 180-plus ballistic missiles against Israel corroborates the point that civilian Iranian officials are not in the decision-making loop. The New York Times’ Thomas Friedman reported that day, citing Israeli sources: “The Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, was not informed of the attack until shortly before it began, the sources said, indicating that the Iranian regime is divided over the operation, which will probably add to the fractures in the government. If the President himself was blindsided by the enormously significant second missile attack on Israel, it is no stretch to conclude many were iced out before October 7.

I was on NewsNation talking about Russia’s nuclear capabilities against Ukraine. |
Critical Context: Bob Woodward's new book - War - releases on October 15 and details the wars in Ukraine, Israel, and the White House.
My Final Word: The White House is so obsessed with the threat of a wider war between Russia and Ukraine that they overstate the risk when they should focus on being accurate. When you overstate the risk, you're giving Vladimir Putin a freebie.
Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, who Biden traded to the Russians for the release of WNBA star Brittney Griner, is back in business. This time he is selling weapons to Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi militants.

My Final Word: The U.S. should work to release innocent Americans from Russian jails. But let‘s be clear, swapping criminals for political kidnapping victims sets a bad precedent and violates the Reaganite rule that we don‘t swap for innocent hostages. It lays the groundwork for more Americans being used as bargaining chips.
