Mask mandates are making a comeback in California, reemerging in the Bay Area. Meanwhile, my opponent, a Newsom staffer, supports toddler masking; and America’s leading masker of 2-year-olds, Xavier Becerra, is plotting a run for governor.
We must elect the right people to assure history doesn’t repeat itself. In this, the first post-COVID election, I believe many voters will remember the pointless lockdowns and school closures, absurd mask and vaccine mandates, authoritarian policymaking, and Orwellian censorship.
I also believe we have an opportunity for a full-fledged repudiation of the Newsom governorship and a new course for California. This election happens as the long-time trend of Democrats gaining on Republicans has been reversed for four straight voter registration cycles.
Here’s what I see as the key races:
Proposition 36: This anti-Prop. 47 initiative, which we worked so hard to qualify for the ballot and Newsom schemed so shamelessly to derail, is on track to pass emphatically. Polls show that up to 70 percent of voters support it.
DA races: LA District Attorney
George Gascón was appointed by Newsom and endorsed by Kamala. Now the voters of a liberal county are about to remove him in an absolute landslide. The DA of Oakland is also facing a recall amidst out-of-control crime.
Congress: California has 12
Republican Members of the House, and the Democrats are targeting 7 – including me, John Duarte, David Valadao, Mike Garcia, Ken Calvert, Michelle Steel, and Young Kim. But Republicans do have at least three pick-up opportunities.
Legislature: Assembly Republican
Leader James Gallagher is spearheading a statewide effort to chip away at the Supermajority while defending GOP incumbents like Josh Hoover.
Meanwhile, Newsom's CARB board is planning to raise gas prices by 65 cents per gallon. Conveniently, they’re doing it 3 days after the election. The crooked timing makes one thing clear: Newsom is very worried about what will happen on November 5.
