When I was appointed to the Senate last year, there wasn't anybody that looked like me — a Black woman.

As one of only three Black women to ever serve in the Senate's 234-year history, I've long understood the importance of making sure everyone has a voice in our government.

That's why I'm reaching out with a special request this month: I know that Lisa Blunt Rochester is a tough, dedicated leader who has what it takes to become our nation's fourth Black woman senator. But she needs resources right now to reach more voters, so I am asking you personally: Will you split a donation between her grassroots campaign and my friends at EMILYs List today?

John, running for the Senate and breaking one of the highest glass ceilings in American politics isn't easy — especially for Black women.

Lisa is up against a self-funding opponent who already cut a $400,000 check for his campaign. So Lisa is counting on us to have her back.

Her best chance to fight back and win is with the help of a lot of folks like you and me, and organizations like EMILYs List. We can make the difference for her campaign.

The stakes are too high to sit this one out, John.
