John,
On National Coming Out Day, we’re taking up space because the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to live authentically and help shape the future of our country. With more than 2,000 queer Americans turning 18 every day, the Gen Z LGBTQIA+ community has the power to influence elections up and down the ballot — and they know it!
The queer community’s rights are under attack, especially in the South, where an estimated 35% of LGBTQIA+ Americans live. Last year, the community witnessed over 500 state bills introduced to target their rights, and 75 became law. The people we elect have a direct impact on the LGBTQIA+ community:
📌 Voters across the country will decide on governor seats in 11 states and lawmakers in 85 legislative chambers. These same elected officials will determine whether to restrict or expand access to gender-affirming care for LGBTQIA+ youth.
📌 School boards have the power to decide what students learn in school and the use of pronouns that reflect students' identities. In 2024, voters will decide on school board members in 29 states.
📌 26 state attorneys general have filed lawsuits to block compliance with updated Title IX protections for LGBTQIA+ students. 10 attorney general seats are up for election in 2024.
John, LGBTQIA+ rights are on the ballot, so this election season, show up for the issues that matter most to you and your community. Register to vote TODAY and forward this email to 3 friends so they are registered and ready to vote LOUD and PROUD! 🏳️🌈
