Dear John,
I hope you all had a great week – I was glad to spend the week here at home, meeting with Minnesotans and working to get results for you.
I am continuing to monitor Hurricane Milton’s damage and pray for the safety and security of all Americans affected by two consecutive hurricanes.
This Monday marked one year since the October 7th Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. I joined the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota to remember the innocent lives lost and pray for the safe return of all the remaining hostages.
On Wednesday, I joined police officers and first responders from across the Second District at my third annual Honoring Our Public Safety Champions Awards event in Lakeville. Every year, this event gives us the opportunity to recognize the critical work Minnesota’s police officers, firefighters and Emergency Medical Services do every day to keep our communities safe and healthy.
This event is one small way that we can honor the first responders who put themselves at risk every day to keep us safe. We also recognized those retiring this year for their years of service and presented certificates to the Public Safety Champions who help keep our community safe.
We also honored the Burnsville police officers and firefighter, Paul Elmstrand, Matthew Ruge and Adam Finseth who lost their lives in February responding to a domestic violence call. We are a grateful community.
Improving public safety is a major focus of mine in Congress, and that’s why I’ll to keep working to bring common sense investments home to keep Minnesotans safe and make sure police officers and first responders have the support they need to do their job safely.
Here’s what else I was up to this week:
Supporting youth fentanyl advocates
On Thursday I joined a group of young advocates in Hastings to recognize their work to spread awareness about the dangers of fentanyl. They wrote and released a PSA in partnership with Hastings TV for the Devin Norring Foundation that shared a critical message about the dangers of fentanyl and the urgent need to combat the fentanyl crisis in our communities.
Celebrating federal funding coming back to Minnesota
This week I also visited the Trunk Highway 13 trail system in Prior Lake with Mayor Kirt Briggs and Senator Tina Smith for a ribbon cutting ceremony. It was great to celebrate federal funding coming back to Minnesota and benefitting the community.
This new trail will connect community members to new biking and walking paths and make coming downtown safer and more accessible.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
In Minnesota and in our house – we love our Minnesota Lynx! Game 1 was in New York and Cheryl and I cheered them on from home!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
