John, today is International Day of the Girl – and in honor of this special day, we’re sharing four girls’ stories of resilience in the face of hardship.

Nicole,* 17 years old, and Anai,* 16 years old
The damaging effects of the climate crisis are causing a surge in poverty throughout Zimbabwe – leading to harmful practices like child marriage. Young girls in Peru are facing similar struggles.

Our supporters are lifting up the voices of girls like Nicole* and Anai,* who attended the 2024 UN Summit of the Future in New York with Save the Children to advocate for climate solutions in their communities and beyond.

Malka,* 9 years old
In places like Indonesia, hard labor and early marriage end many young girls’ childhoods – but Malka is breaking free of those practices and living life on her own terms. Living with her parents and two siblings, she follows a structured routine that helps her learn valuable skills like discipline, organization and independence.

Thanks to this team of supporters, she’s able to continue her education with Save the Children’s help, building the foundation she needs to follow her dreams of becoming a doctor one day.

Dana,* 13 years old
War can leave a lasting impact on a child’s mental health – that’s something Dana learned firsthand when her family fled conflict in Iraq and Syria. But even in the face of trauma, Dana made an inspiring recovery.

The generosity of our supporters helped Dana attend a child-friendly space where she was able to heal her emotional wounds, kick-start her education and defy traditional gender norms by joining her camp’s soccer team.

It fills our hearts with joy to know that these young girls are getting a chance at the futures they deserve – and it wouldn’t be possible without dedicated champions like you leading the charge against gender discrimination. Together, we can continue to help girls rise above inequality and leave their mark on the world.
