On October 1st, the City of Toronto made history.
The Executive Committee passed a motion to immediately fund the student nutrition programs in the 21 schools on the waiting list and to work towards a universal student food program (view the agenda here ([link removed]) ).
Debbie Field, National Coordinator of the CHSF, Asma Musa, Founding Member of Say Somaali, ([link removed]) an education-based organization in the Greater Toronto Area, and other members of the community delivered their deputations to the Executive Committee of the City of Toronto (see the recording here ([link removed]) ).
The Coalition for Healthy School Food welcomes the adoption of this historic motion. The City of Toronto now joins New York, London, Seoul, and Berlin who have adopted similar motions in their respective cities.

** the launch of the Provincial School Food and Nutrition Policy in Nova Scotia
------------------------------------------------------------
In September 2024, the Government of Nova Scotia introduced a School Food and Nutrition Policy ([link removed]) and a School Food and Beverage Standards document ([link removed]) .
The Coalition for Healthy School Food applauds the launch of this policy and hopes that other provinces and territories implement similar policies.
This long-awaited revision to the 2006 policy was a key recommendation from the 2022 Auditor General’s report, which echoed the concerns of Nourish NS ([link removed]) , a member of the CHSF, and other school food champions across the province.
In alignment with the new pay-what-you-canhttps://nslunch.ca/lunch program ([link removed]) , these documents support school staff/volunteers and school food providers to determine which foods and beverages may be offered at school, including as part of school, team/group, classroom activities, school-wide events, and fundraising efforts.

** An ultramarathon in BC

** to call on the BC government to sign the National School Food Program Agreement
------------------------------------------------------------
On October 16 (World Food Day), Brent Mansfield, a Vancouver elementary school teacher, will run around the front lawn of the BC Parliament Buildings.
Students from Victoria schools and supporters from the BC Chapter of the Coalition for Healthy School Food (BC-CHSF) ([link removed]) , including Flourish! School Food Society ([link removed]) and the Public Health Association of BC (PHABC) ([link removed]) , will also take part in the event.
The ultramarathon calls on all parties in the upcoming election to support school food programs in BC.
As Newfoundland and Labrador signed the first provincial National School Food Program Agreement in September ([link removed]) , Brent will also be running to urge the future BC government to sign an agreement as soon as possible to ensure federal funds can support BC students in the 2024-25 school year.

La ville de Toronto
mettra en place un programme universel d'alimentation scolaire
Le 1er octobre, la ville de Toronto est entrée dans l'histoire.
Le comité exécutif a adopté une motion visant à financer immédiatement les programmes d'alimentation scolaire dans les 21 écoles figurant sur la liste d'attente et à mettre en place un programme universel d'alimentation scolaire (voir l'ordre du jour ici ([link removed]) ).

En septembre, le gouvernement de la Nouvelle-Écosse a introduit unepolitique provinciale en alimentation scolaire et en nutrition ([link removed]) ainsi qu'unhttps://www.ednet.ns.ca/docs/schoolfoodandbeveragestandardsen.pdfdocument sur les normes en matière d'aliments et de boissons dans les écoles ([link removed]) (les documents sont disponibles en anglais seulement).
La Coalition pour une saine alimentation scolaire applaudit le lancement de cette politique et espère que d'autres provinces et territoires mettront en œuvre des politiques similaires.
Cette révision tant attendue de la politique de 2006 était une recommandation clé du rapport du vérificateur général de 2022, qui faisait écho aux préoccupations dehttps://www.nourishns.ca/Nourish NS ([link removed]) , un membre de la CSAS, et d'autres acteurs clés de l'alimentation en milieu scolaire dans toute la province.

Le 16 octobre prochain, Brent Mansfield, un professeur d'école primaire de Vancouver, courra sur la pelouse de l'Assemblée législative de la Colombie-Britannique.
Des élèves des écoles de Victoria et des sympathisants de la section britanno-colombienne de la Coalition pour une saine alimentation scolaire (CSAS-CB) ([link removed]) , dont «Flourish ! School Food Society ([link removed]) » et la «Public Health Association of BC ([link removed]) » (PHABC), participeront également à l'événement.
Le marathon invite tous les partis Ă soutenir les programmes d'alimentation scolaire en Colombie-Britannique.
Alors que Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador a signé le premier accord provincial sur le Programme national d'alimentation scolaire en septembre, Brent courra également pour demander au futur gouvernement de la Colombie-Britannique de signer un accord dès que possible afin que les fonds fédéraux puissent soutenir les élèves de la province au cours de l'année scolaire 2024-25.
