Happy Friday! October is off to a busy start as I hosted roundtables with healthcare stakeholders, toured 25 new electric buses for students in Herscher, celebrated a healthcare center's new Level II Ultrasound, and more. My team is also busy planning two hiring events later this month for residents looking for new career opportunities.

Efforts to Diversify Clinical Trials

I had a crucial conversation with healthcare, government, and research leaders who are working to diversify clinical trials. Communities of color are disproportionately affected by disease and cancer -- but we are excluded from research trials meant to treat these conditions. My bill, the NIH Clinical Trial Diversity Act, would enhance the inclusion of historically marginalized communities in clinical trials and ensure breakthroughs in medical treatments reach everyone.

Illinois Received $1.5 Million to Improve Maternal Health

I was proud to welcome Jordan Grossman, Deputy Administrator of Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), for a discussion on reducing maternal mortality rates. HRSA awarded nearly $1.5 million to the University of Illinois-Chicago to identify and implement strategies to address the maternal mortality crisis. This funding will help ensure every woman and mother receives the care, support, and resources she deserves.
