Stephen Miller, Trump’s top immigration advisor, has been looking for an excuse to ban immigration for a long time.
 
Back in 2018, a group of detained migrants became seriously ill. Two children, both under the age of ten, died in federal custody. Stephen Miller tried to use the tragedy as proof that immigrants carry illness and should be banned -- even though, according to The New York Times, “many viewed the incidents as resulting from negligence on the part of the border authorities.” 
 
Now with the current pandemic, Miller has his excuse. He’s proposed using the Insurrection Act, in a move that would deploy the military to the border. Miller, a known white nationalist, has been unsuccessful in advancing his ideology before -- but now he’s got his golden opportunity.
