Can you help us defend our victory in court?
Dear John
I’m afraid I’ve got some disappointing news.
Heathrow Airport Limited and developers Arora Holdings have just been given permission to appeal against the decision to stop them building a climate-wrecking third runway. Sadly this story isn’t over.
When we won our historic legal case in February we knew this might happen. Both companies quickly applied to appeal so we didn’t take anything for granted.
Our legal team has therefore been busy preparing for this moment. And the good news is that we’re confident that the Supreme Court will agree with us that it was illegal for the government to support a third runway without considering what this meant for meeting the Paris Agreement and the total climate impacts the development could have. That’s why, with your support, we will defend our ground-breaking Court of Appeal victory.
Thank you to everyone who donated to support our legal team earlier this week. If you haven't, please consider chipping in to support our team today. Your donation could help us win our legal case in the highest court in the country, and take a big step towards protecting people and planet from Heathrow expansion once and for all.

It’s especially important right now, as we plan for a future beyond this global pandemic, that the UK invests in low-carbon infrastructure that stops us making the climate crisis even worse. A new runway at Heathrow is the opposite of what we need to be building.
When it's operating, the airport is already one of the country’s single biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Claims of cutting emissions through offsetting and non-existent new technology simply don’t add up. If we want to meet our targets to avoid catastrophic climate change, increasing flights is not an option.
We now hope that the Supreme Court will put this legal challenge to bed – by confirming the Court of Appeal judgment that the government's support for a third runway was clearly unlawful on climate grounds.
We’re going to need a lot of support to help us fight this next stage of the case. So please consider donating today.

We were hoping not to have to go back to court to fight the third runway, but with you behind us we believe we have the power to win again.
Best wishes,
Katie
