John,
San Francisco’s tent count is down 60%, hitting the lowest
level since before 2018.
Our encampment teams helped nearly
1,000 people directly from the street into shelter since the start of
2024. In the last year,
we’ve helped over 5,200 people move from homelessness into permanent
housing and increased residential treatment admissions by over 30%.
People are getting real help.
This is huge news, and I’m
incredibly proud of the work we’ve done to make significant progress
getting tents off the street and people into shelter, homes, and back
with family.
Every day our City workers are out
offering help, bringing people indoors, and cleaning up our
neighborhoods. We are a compassionate City that leads with services,
but we also will continue to enforce our laws when those offers are
rejected.
This latest count shows we are making real progress. Under
my leadership as Mayor we won’t let up moving people into shelter and
housing, and improving the conditions of our
neighborhoods.
I’m excited to continue this work and
our progress over the next four years, but we are up
against unprecedented millions being spent on this race to elect a
candidate with absolutely no experience. We don’t have time for
someone to learn on the job.
