Vela Project, a 23-story mixed-use building in North Pacific Beach raises many questions and the ire of those who trusted in the integrity of the 1972 voter-approved 30-foot Coastal Height Limit. I have joined the Mayor in expressing concern about the project’s size and commercial use to the state’s Housing and Community Development Department (HCD). We are awaiting HCD’s review and monitoring the city's review of this "by right" proposal. Read our letter here.

D1 OUT IN THE COMMUNITY

We had a jam-packed weekend out in the District 1 community from Pacific BeachFest, La Jolla Open Aire Market, and Walter Munk Day, to a Filipino American Heritage Month celebration at the La Jolla Riford Library. These events showcase the best of our D1 communities by elevating local businesses, celebrating our neighbors' culture and achievements, supporting students, and working to protect a defining aspect of our district—the ocean. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers who made it all happen!
