Hey John—
The whole data broker industry is built on a business model that betrays abuse survivors to their abusers. Data brokers collect and sell our most sensitive data like our home address, phone number, and social security number to literally anyone, usually without our knowledge or consent.
Abusers can easily purchase this data from brokers to stalk, harass, and threaten survivors. This needs to end, can you ask your representatives to protect us all and cosponsor the DELETE Act?
Take Action
With hundreds of data brokers out there and no regulation, abuse survivors live at the mercy of data brokers.1 Every year, an average of 12 million Americans face abuse from an intimate partner.2
Last year, California passed a law mandating a Do Not Call-style list for data brokers. Through this list, Californians can opt-out of being included in the databases maintained and sold by all data brokers with just one click.3 Abuse survivors across the country, not just in California, should have an easy and free way to gain control over their data.
A federal version of this California law, The DELETE Act (H.R.4311), is currently in Congress. Tell your representatives to protect abuse survivors and those vulnerable to abuse and pass this bill!
Privacy should serve abuse survivors’ safety and empowerment, not be put up for sale by greedy data brokers.
Thanks for standing up for abuse survivors,
Lia & the team at Fight
