John,
The COVID-19 crisis has shown the world something that you and I have always known: caregiving is essential work.
So today, we're doing something special to stand with the incredible women whose work caring for our families, our homes, and our communities never stops. It's called the #RosieChallenge, to remind us of Rosie the Riveter. Just as Rosie kept the country running during World War II, caregivers of all kinds are keeping our communities running today.
Here's what to do:
Take a selfie in a "Rosie the Riveter" pose, or a pose you're able to do. No need to make it fancy -- you can use the camera on your phone or computer!
Post your selfie to your Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts to show the world that you stand with caregivers and domestic workers. Be sure to include the hashtags #RosieChallenge and #CareForAll in your post.
Tag three friends in your post, and ask them to show their support with a selfie of their own! We need as many people as possible to participate, to demonstrate the power of our movement for dignity and fairness for family caregivers and care recipients.
Here's some sample language you can use:
I accept the #RosieChallenge from @caringacrossgen because we're all caregivers in this moment. The frontlines start in our homes, where caregivers and domestic workers are doing essential work. [@tag], [@tag], [@tag], show me your Rosie pose! #CareForAll
During World War II, Rosie the Riveter inspired Americans to come together in the war effort and showed that women could do anything.
There was never just one Rosie. She represented all women who answered the call and worked in our factories to help the fight against fascism.
These days, our struggle looks a little different. We're either stuck in our homes, trying to figure out how to care for the people who matter to us, or we're going to work, putting our bodies on the line, to make it possible for others to live their lives. We have an opportunity to build a future that supports us all, but only if we come together and fight for it.
The first step is posting your Rosie selfie. Don't forget to use the hashtags #RosieChallenge and #CareForAll.
This is a fun way to get involved at a very critical serious moment. As you read this, Congress is deciding the details of the next coronavirus relief package, and whether it will provide desperately needed help for the family caregivers, home care aides, nannies, and house cleaners who are on the front lines of this crisis, keeping our families safe and running.
We worked with two Congressional champions -- Rep. Deb Haaland of New Mexico and Rep. Joaquin Castro of Texas -- to send a letter to Congressional leadership demanding they focus on essential workers and family caregivers. We're fighting for stronger protections and Family Care benefits; free COVID testing and care; ongoing cash assistance that is inclusive of all working families; and more. We're fighting to make Congress #CareForAll.
Your Rosie selfie will show the strength of our movement and the power of caregivers everywhere. Share your Rosie selfie today, using the hashtags #RosieChallenge and #CareForAll, and challenge your friends to do the same!
With care,
