SIGN NOW: We must fix the Electoral College >>
John, new data shows that nearly 2 in 3 Americans support our efforts to fix the broken Electoral College and elect the president by popular vote. [1]
And it’s no mystery why – every presidential election, we see the same problems:
That’s not what democracy for the people is about. Giving some Americans’ voices more weight than others is just plain wrong.
The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPV) would ensure that all our votes count equally when picking our next president – and that the candidate who gets the most votes always wins the presidency. Add your name to tell states to sign on >>
It’s a commonsense solution: with NPV, the candidate who wins the most votes nationwide would become the next president. This would finally give voters in ALL 50 states and D.C. a real, equal voice in presidential elections.
Best of all, it wouldn’t take an act of Congress or a constitutional amendment to get it done. By signing onto the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, states can pledge to award their electoral votes to the national popular vote winner – simple as that.
And we’re closer to putting this in place than you might think – 17 states and the District of Columbia have already signed on, giving us 209 of the 270 electoral votes we need to implement NPV.
That’s why Common Cause has prioritized advancing the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact in as many states as possible this year – and we’ve recently helped bring Minnesota and Maine on board. With your action today, we can create the fair, representative democracy we deserve.
John, we’ve seen how the broken Electoral College distorts our democracy. If you agree with the majority of Americans who want to fix this broken system, join us today in asking every state to sign onto the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
It’s time to ensure that every voter has a meaningful voice in presidential elections, no matter where they live.
Thanks for all you do,
