Hi,

Twice in the last six presidential elections, the candidate who got fewer
votes won, thanks to the current, undemocratic Electoral College system.

And now polling expert Nate Silver says there's a greater than one in five
chance that it will happen again this year.^1

Enough is enough. It's long past time to finally fix the Electoral
College, and we're supporting a plan to do just that. It's called the
National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is a legal agreement among
the states to award their electoral votes to the winner of the national
popular vote. The compact goes into effect when enough states join to add
up to 270 electoral votes — and with 17 states and the District of
Columbia already on board, we're just 61 electoral votes away from
victory.^2

Demand Progress Action to support our work to enact the National Popular
Vote, and fight for other key reforms?

We're now less than a month from a presidential election that will have
enormous consequences for generations.

And yet 80% of the American people have effectively zero voice in the
outcome, due to the current Electoral College system.

That doesn't make sense, and it's definitely not democratic.

Let's be clear: the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact isn't about
helping one party or the other. It's a nonpartisan effort to make sure our
democracy actually functions in a way that reflects the will of the
majority.

Demand Progress Action has mobilized tens of thousands of people to call
for this change. We've seen the movement grow one state at a time over the
years, and today we're closer than ever. Maine joined the compact earlier
this spring, and while it's too late to fix the system before the November
election, we can make this the very last time we vote under the current,
undemocratic Electoral College system.

our work, including fighting to enact the National Popular Vote Interstate
Compact?
