It's important that Christians vote in elections.
ELECTION 2024
Your Encouragement of Others to Vote May Matter More Than You Think
We recently sent highlights from a new study done by noted pollster George Barna in which he interviewed 2,000 church-going, self-identified Christians. That study focused on Christians’ interest levels and viewpoints in the upcoming 2024 election. You may find the following results compelling.
1. People of faith make up about 79% of America's population at large. (This includes those who self-identify as a person or faith or are associated with recognized religious faiths, such as Christianity, Judaism, Mormonism, Islam, etc.) Out of this group, 51% are likely to vote while 49% are not likely to vote.
2. Reasons that people of faith may not vote include: not being interested in politics (68%), disliking all major candidates (57%), feeling that none of the candidates reflected their views (55%), believing that one vote doesn’t make a difference (52%), thinking the current election is too controversial (50%), believing the election is rigged or not knowing enough about the candidates (48%).
3. The study also showed, however, that churches and individuals can make a difference in the motivation to vote. This is good news! For example, if churches taught that voting is a Biblical responsibility of Christians, 17% of non-voters would vote. Additionally, 14% would consider voting if their family/friends were convincing about the importance of voting. If only 10-15% of people of faith non-voters changed their minds, millions more would take part in the election and could potentially change the outcome of an election.
Christians now, as they have historically, can provide desperately needed leadership in their communities and in the nation at large. We encourage you to be aware<[link removed]> of the candidates and issues on the ballot, to learn what the Bible says regarding these issues, and to encourage fellow Christians to become involved. Vote and, most of all, pray for “all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” (I Timothy 2:2)
