Hunger Free America Success Story

Gessy, a 50-year-old Bronx resident who lives near Hunger Free America’s satellite office, learned about our services through a social media post. As a long-time SNAP recipient, she visited us to add her two children to her household. She submitted all the required documents within the same week, but after 30 days without a response, she visited us again.

Our team of Benefits Specialists carefully reviewed her case and found that nothing had been processed. We promptly submitted a mediation request and eventually we were able to get the error corrected. Gessy’s SNAP benefits increased from $298 to $498 per month! She was incredibly relieved and was grateful for the much-needed support and resolution.

Your donation will help us enroll more families in SNAP and WIC, providing them with essential food benefits. It will also allow us to continue our important work advocating for anti-hunger programs, such as Summer EBT, which provides families with additional funds to purchase food when school is out.
