In this Issue: All about youth: Education, equality and student empowerment

Friend –

Welcome to our third Member and Supporter Newsletter of 2024 and our 'Back to School' issue! As students and families get into the swing of the new school year, we wanted to highlight some school-related resources and stories for you. We appreciate your continued support of our work as we continue fighting for the rights of Wisconsinites of all ages.

Twenty-Five Years and Counting: How a Former Youth Organizer Continues to Serve

As many return to school, we wanted to highlight ACLU of WI Board Member Nichole (Nikki) Yunk Todd, who started her career with us as the Director of Youth Affairs. We had the privilege of sitting down with Nikki to ask her how her experience as a young civil rights and liberties leader has shaped her life and career. Read more about Nikki and her story. <[link removed]>

ACLU-WI Student Programming Continues to Build Student Leaders

The ACLU of Wisconsin holds three cornerstone youth programs run by our Community Engagement Department: Student Alliance, which works directly in schools, Youth Social Justice Forum (YOSO), a one-day student gathering in the fall, and Summer Justice Institute (SJI), a week-long program in the summer.

All three programs work together to create a circle of programming for students, giving them opportunities to engage with and grow in their understanding of their civil rights and liberties, learn about the current work being done in the community, grow their leadership skills, and build connections with their peers and other community members. Students participate in workshops, site visits, artistic endeavors, and more as they dive deep into what civil rights and liberties mean to them. Learn more about our youth programs and our Youth Partnership Manager, Abby Homuth. <[link removed]>

As many of you know, earlier this year, the ACLU of Wisconsin featured the ACLU-WI Member/Support Survey in this newsletter, asking for your participation to incorporate input as we continue defending civil rights and liberties across Wisconsin.
