Hurricane Milton Reaches Florida, Tears Roof Off MLB Stadium

Wall Street Journal: Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida on Wednesday, bringing dangerous winds, life-threatening storm surge and heavy rain to a region that was pummeled by Hurricane Helene less than two weeks ago. The storm hit near Siesta Key, Fla., in Sarasota County around 8:30 p.m. ET as a Category 3 hurricane, the National Hurricane Center said. Maximum sustained winds were estimated at 120 mph. Late Wednesday night, Milton was downgraded to a Category 2 hurricane. Before making landfall, Milton hammered Florida with several inches of rain, heavy winds, storm surge and tornadoes… Millions were urged to evacuate ahead of the storm. Some faced traffic jams and found gas stations out of fuel (Wall Street Journal). Collin Rugg: The roof of the Tropicana Field where the Tampa Bay Rays play has been ripped off. The incident happened after Hurricane Milton made landfall around 8:30pm. First responders were reportedly staging cots inside the stadium when it was ripped off. There are no reported injuries (X). Reporter Brian Entin: The water has been sucked out of Tampa Bay by Milton. Happened fast (X).

Tim Walz: “The electoral college needs to go”
Daily Wire: Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz said on Tuesday that the “Electoral College needs to go,” forcing the Kamala Harris campaign to release a statement saying it does not support abolishing the Constitutional mechanism for presidential elections. At two campaign fundraisers on the West Coast, Walz called for abolishing the Electoral College, arguing that it forces candidates to focus too much attention on a handful of battleground states. “I think all of us know, the Electoral College needs to go. We need a national popular vote,” Walz told donors at California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s home in Sacramento (Daily Wire). Charlie Kirk: Tim Walz calls for eliminating the Electoral College while fundraising at Gavin Newsom’s Sacramento private residence. Add it to the list: Packing the Supreme Court, Adding Puerto Rico and DC as states, Shredding the Freedom of Speech, Destroying 2A with “mandatory” gun confiscation, Eliminating the benefits of US citizenship, Abolishing the Senate filibuster. And more… The party of “protecting democracy” despises America’s constitutional republic (X).

Is the school really allowing this be said in classrooms? Clay Travis: University of Kansas professor says men who won’t vote for Kamala because she’s a woman should be lined up and shot (X). Charlie Kirk: “There are going to be some males in our society who will refuse to vote for a potential female president because they don’t think females are smart enough to be president. We can line all those guys up and shoot them.” “Did I say that? Scratch that from the recording. I don’t want the dean to see that.” College is a scam, folks. These people have serious problems (X).

Biden Administration Complains Israel Not Sharing War Plans With Them
Wall Street Journal: Israel has so far refused to divulge to the Biden administration details of its plans to retaliate against Tehran, U.S. officials said, even as the White House is urging its closest Middle East ally not to hit Iran’s oil facilities or nuclear sites amid fears of a widening regional war. U.S. officials are frustrated that they have been repeatedly caught off guard by Israel’s military actions in Gaza and Lebanon, and are seeking to head off further escalation. Some had hoped the U.S. would learn more about what Israel was contemplating during a planned meeting Wednesday between Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at the Pentagon, but Gallant postponed his trip, the Pentagon said (Wall Street Journal). Ed Morrissey: Biden’s strategy, imposed on Israel for months, was to negotiate with Hamas to get back to the October 6 status quo. Biden wanted that to smooth his prospects for re-election; it was Biden that “doesn’t give a damn” about Israel. And how did Biden’s predictions of disaster from a Rafah op turn out? About as well as all of Biden’s military strategies. Netanyahu learned his lesson well. Biden has no talent at all for strategic thinking, and he’s not even good at tactical thinking. Biden’s strategic plans — and those of the Obama administration, whose foreign-policy team runs the current administration — involved appeasing Iran and allowing them to dominate the region, in order to claim success in American disengagement. That strategy, along with hundreds of billions in wealth transfers to Iran over the last nine years, created the war Israel found itself in on October 7 (HotAir).

Kamala Harris Accused of Being Fed Answers During Live Broadcast
Daily Mail: Kamala Harris had an obvious hot microphone moment during a briefing on Hurricane Milton. Donald Trump’s campaign and critics on X are accusing the vice president of being fed what to say during the briefing on Wednesday. While National Weather Service Director Ken Graham was providing information on the storm, Harris could be seen covering her mouth awkwardly and heard saying: ‘It’s a live broadcast’ (Daily Mail). Katie Pavlich: She’s desperately inserting herself in an effort to be taken seriously and to prove she can be in command. It’s not going well and she’s sucking away time from people working on the problem (X).

Colorado Supreme Court Dismisses Lawsuit Against Christian Baker, Jack Phillips
Just the News: The Colorado Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a controversial lawsuit on a technicality, which was filed against a Christian baker who refused to bake a cake for a transgender attorney who wanted to celebrate their gender transition. The lawsuit is the latest for Masterpiece Cakeshop owner Jack Phillips, who has been the recipient of multiple lawsuits over the past 12 years, due to his firm refusal to bake cakes that go against his religious beliefs. The first case was in 2012, and gained national attention when he refused to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding. The firm added that Phillips makes his decision on what cakes to bake based on the content of the cake, and not the person who made the request (Just the News). New York Post: The Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act bars businesses from discriminating against customers on the grounds of “disability, race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, national origin, or ancestry…” The high court later sided with Phillips in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, finding that the state panel did not exhibit religious neutrality in its decision (New York Post).

DOJ Looks at Breaking Up Google
Fox Business: The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday said that it may ask Alphabet’s Google to divest parts of its business that it says have been used to maintain an illegal monopoly in online search. A federal judge ruled in August that Google had built an illegal monopoly over internet searches, more than 90% of which are processed through Google. The DOJ’s proposed remedies could have a significant impact on how Americans find information on the internet while shrinking Google’s revenues and giving its competitors an opportunity to grow. The DOJ said that to address the monopoly, it may ask the court to require Google to divest its Chrome browser and its Android operating system. It also may request the court stop Google’s payments to have its search engine pre-installed or set as the default on new devices, or require it to share search data with other competing providers…The DOJ is expected to file a more detailed proposal with the court by Nov. 20, after which Google will have a chance to propose its own remedies by Dec. 20 (Fox Business). BBC: In a blog post, Google’s vice president of regulatory affairs, Lee-Anne Mulholland, said the recommendations constitute “government overreach” and could result in higher prices for consumers. Ms Mulholland admitted Google makes its Chrome browser and Android operating system free because they are gateways to “help people access the web and use our products.” She warned that if they were to be separated from Google, they would have to start making money in their own right – which would lead to increased prices (BBC).

Denver Family Sues School District for Failing to Protect Son Who Was Shot on Campus
National Review: The family of a Denver student who was gunned down last year in his high school’s parking lot has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit accusing district leaders of failing to maintain a safe environment, in part by removing school-resource officers from their campuses. The lawsuit, filed last week by the estate of 16-year-old Luis Garcia, is at least the third legal challenge against Denver Public Schools and its far-left school board in just over a year in connection to their efforts to relax student-discipline policies in the name of racial equity and ending the “school-to-prison pipeline” for minority students. Concerned parents and community members say the school board’s moves have led to deteriorating safety conditions and increased violence in Denver schools. District leaders have been accused of retaliating against vocal opponents of their efforts to keep violent students out of jail and in public-school classrooms (National Review).

Georgia’s Public Universities Ask NCAA to Ban Men Competing Against Women
National Review: Georgia’s 26 public universities and colleges voted unanimously on Tuesday to ask the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) to ban transgender-identifying male athletes from competing in women’s sports. Regents of the state university system’s more than two dozen schools, including the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech, asked the NCAA and the National Junior College Athletic Association to conform to a policy set forth by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) earlier this year. In April, the sports federation largely approved the banning of male athletes from women’s sports at its 241 member institutions (National Review). New York Post: Under the NAIA’s new policies, the only athletes permitted to participate in women’s sports are those assigned female at birth and have not undergone hormone therapy. All athletes are still allowed to participate in NAIA-sponsored male sports (New York Post).
