Help us fight Trump with real action today. ([link removed])

All year we have seen states work hard to suppress more votes than ever. Tennessee created harsher voter registration restrictions. Florida worked to reverse the enfranchisement of 1.4 million returning citizens. Texas introduced a law so extreme that even they couldn't pass it- yet. We knew this was coming. After the record breaking number of votes in 2018, the people in power have to do whatever they can to prevent more people from voting in 2020.

So Trump's tweet last night was no surprise.

Election security is a real issue. We know that. Everyone who has ever heard of Russia or Facebook knows that. But election security breaches help people in power. They work for the powerful. They maintain the status quo.

Free and fair elections, however, have the opposite effect. They ensure that everyone can vote. And when everyone can vote, the powerful- who almost always represent a small minority- lose.

That's why they need voter ID. Over 21 million eligible voters in the US do not have government-issued photo ID. 34 states require ID to vote (and, really, all 50 states require ID in some circumstances and certain types of elections). And who are those 21 million? They have low or no incomes (you can't work without photo ID). They are often elderly and have let their driver's licenses expire. They are people of color. They are high school and college students. They are returning citizens. They are victims of domestic violence. They are single parents. They are not represented by the powerful.

Spread The Vote is a nonpartisan organization. We never ask anyone what party they identify with or make any demands on them as far as voting in order to get them an ID.

But we're also an organization that believes in data and we have deeply studied our clients. And here are some of the facts:
* 77% of our clients have never voted before
* 100% of our clients cannot vote without our help
* 81% of our clients identify as Democrats, 12% as Independent, 7% as Republican

Donald Trump wants us to focus on voter ID rather than election security because breaches in our national election security helped him get elected and free and fair elections would allow every American to have a voice in 2020. And he can't let that happen.

We are the only national organization that helps people get the IDs they need to vote. We have heard over and over again all year that donors and campaigns will wait to focus on voter turnout until next year. Well, Donald Trump isn't waiting until next year, and neither can we.

We need your help. ([link removed]) We cannot fight this fight without you. Please help us make sure that as many people as possible are able to vote next November.

Thank you so much,
Kat
