Hi John.

I know good ideas can come from Republicans and Democrats. And one area where I know we can find common ground is eliminating wasteful spending.

I understand that Kansans are concerned about wasteful spending and our nation’s debt. Congress must do a better job of protecting taxpayers and rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse.

That’s why I’m supporting the bipartisan Identifying and Eliminating Wasteful Programs Act. Click here to learn more and read a non-partisan summary.

This legislation is a great example of how both parties can work together to stop waste.

The Identifying and Eliminating Wasteful Programs Act is common sense.

Specifically, it requires federal agencies to find duplicative programs that should be candidates for elimination. The agencies then have to send a list of those programs to Congress and make the list publicly available. Then they have to work with Congress to eliminate or consolidate the programs.

I’ve been focused on protecting taxpayers since being sworn into office. For example, I stood up to my party’s leaders to push them to honor fiscally responsible budget rules. I also helped pass bipartisan laws to crack down on fraud in small business relief programs that scammed Johnson County residents.

But I know there’s a lot more to do. If we’re going to rebuild trust between people and their government, Congress simply must do a better job of protecting taxpayers.

We also don’t have to accept a false and self-defeating choice. We cannot balance our budget on the backs of seniors, veterans, or the middle class. That includes protecting Social Security and Medicare from devastating cuts. Balancing our budget requires pragmatism – not extremism.

It’s an honor to serve you and your family in the U.S. House of Representatives. If you have any questions, you’re always welcome to contact me.
