John,
When we talk about abortion rights, many people think that living in California means our rights are secure.
But the truth is, even in states with protections, those rights are not guaranteed unless we fight for federal protections.
Just this week, the case of Anna Nusslock in California made national headlines.
Anna, who was miscarrying twins at 15 weeks, was denied emergency abortion care at Providence St. Joseph Hospital on February 23rd due to the hospital’s restrictive policies.
Instead of receiving the life-saving care she needed, Anna was sent to another hospital 20 minutes away with nothing but a bucket and towels for her car ride.
By the time she arrived, she was hemorrhaging and in life-threatening danger.
I refuse to stay silent when fundamental rights are threatened, and I will fight every day to ensure no one else endures what Anna did. If that’s what you’re looking for in your member of Congress, contribute to our campaign today. Your donations are building a movement that stands up for real healthcare access and reproductive rights.
Anna’s case is a chilling reminder that the fight for abortion rights is never over – not even in states like California.
It also echoes similar tragedies in Georgia and Texas, where women have lost their lives because they were denied timely care due to state laws that keep pregnant people from controlling their reproductive decisions, and prevent doctors from providing their patients with necessary care.
We cannot be complacent. We must fight for federal protections for reproductive rights now – no matter how blue a district or state we’re in.
The issue goes beyond California; it's about ensuring every person across the country has access to the care they need.
It's frustrating to see Democrats like my opponent, Jimmy Gomez, receive endorsements from Planned Parenthood while doing nothing substantial to protect abortion rights.
For decades, Democrats controlled Congress while Roe v. Wade was in effect, but they hesitated to codify it into law.
This wasn’t just oversight; politicians made a strategic choice to try to win elections by not making waves, rather than standing up for our fundamental rights.
That reluctance to act decisively cost us dearly – Roe was overturned and fundamental rights were lost – and now we are in the position of having to rebuild those protections from the ground up.
This pattern is all too familiar with corporate Democrats: they prioritize maintaining the status quo, believing that playing it safe and avoiding bold reforms will secure their political careers.
But history has shown time and time again that this philosophy not only fails to energize voters, but often results in losses when faced with a GOP willing to go to extremes.
In safe blue seats like CA-34, we should be pushing for the most progressive, bold solutions – especially on fundamental issues like abortion rights.
Instead, many Democrats are content with the status quo, avoiding controversy and holding back when they should be leading.
We need a representative who will not compromise when it comes to human rights.
We need someone who has consistently shown up for the community and understands that these rights are non-negotiable.
That’s the kind of leadership I will bring to Washington – fighting for legislation like the Women’s Health Protection Act and H.R. 1124 to ensure abortion rights are permanently protected at the federal level.
I will fight for reproductive justice, ensuring that everyone has access to the reproductive health care they need, whether that means standing up for abortion, IVF, contraception or Medicare for All.
Jimmy Gomez has shown time and time again that he’s not willing to take those bold steps.
He plays it safe, and that’s not what our district deserves.
We need someone who will fight for every single right – someone who isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo.
If you’re tired of politicians who only talk the talk, contribute to our movement today.
Together, we can elect leaders who will fight for our rights, our lives, and our future. Let’s build a movement that isn’t afraid to stand up for what’s right.
It’s time for us,
David Kim
