It’s David Olson here. I am running for Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). In case you were unaware, I finished in the final two, in a crowded field, in the Washington State primary this last August for this position.

* Elected to the Peninsula School District Board in 2013, and twice re-elected
* Various leadership roles, including President, Vice President, and board Legislative Representative
* Elected to the Pierce County Charter Review Commission 2015

As you are likely well aware, you bear the burden of extremely high taxes in Washington State. Washington State’s school system is ranked 16th highest in the United States in government spending and has the 25th overall school system in the Country (35th in SAT scores). That is simply unacceptable. Enrollment is down across the state and Seattle Public Schools is on the verge of closing multiple locations.

While the State of Washington is not holding up to their end of the bargain by fully funding public schools, the problem is much larger than that. It’s spending. I believe that those in charge of school district budgets should be better trained to deal with large budgets and public funds…and to promote those who are effective and have a proven track record. This begins with good leadership.

My opponent, Chris Reykdal, has been in office for 8 years. Under Reykdal’s failed leadership, Washington’s education system is failing our kids and YOU, the taxpayer, are NOT getting what you are paying over $18,000 per child for… a quality education and preparation for life.

We desperately need your VOTE November 5th. If you want to see real change in how your dollars are being spent and how our children are being educated, the TIME IS NOW.

We can continue down the path of self-destruction, lead by the current OSPI… or we can pave a new path. A path of leadership, empowerment and education. A path that will put teachers, educators and administrations in a position to succeed once again. We will put Washington State among the leaders country-wide in public education… and the scores will prove it!
