Friends,
We can make history this November, by sending Shaun Scott to Olympia to represent the 43rd LD and electing the first socialist to Washington’s state legislature in over 100 years.
The general election is officially less than ONE month away! BUT voters will be voting as soon as NEXT week, with ballots dropping on Wednesday, October 18th!
Shaun has consistently championed a pro-working class, socialist policy platform throughout the campaign, whether it be affordable social housing, labor, funding our schools, Palestinian solidarity, and opposing police brutality. While Shaun’s stances are overwhelmingly popular with working class voters, he’s attracted opposition from establishment forces like the Seattle Times who chose to endorse his right-wing, pro-Big Business opponent Andrea Suarez.
One look at Suarez’s donor list would show who she’s representing - a virtual who’s who of big developers and landlords responsible for driving up rents in Seattle to stratospheric heights:
- the Washington Association of Realtors gave a max-out donation of $2,400 (just shy of the average rent in Seattle for a one bedroom apartment);
- Carl Haugland - notorious slumlord who’s apartments have been cited for substandard conditions with rats, cockroach infestations, and dilapidation;
- Vulcan executives who turned SouthLake Union into a playground for the super-rich, and many more
- She has also taken max-out donations from pro-charter school proponents, investment bankers, and anti-union construction CEO’s.
The urgency of offering an alternative to politics as usual to working people becomes more clear by the day. Austerity is wreaking havoc on our state, especially as Seattle schools face mass school closures and teacher layoffs. Shaun has unabashedly advocated for fully funding our schools by taxing the rich, and it’s critical we reject austerity at the ballot this November.
