TL;DR
I just got back from Resource Movement’s annual conference (that’s RG Canada!!) and want to tell you about it
It’s the last week of RG’s month-long Fall Drive. Be sure to renew your membership dues [[link removed]] and sign the redistribution pledge [[link removed]] before the end of the drive!
RG has raised $410K thus far toward our Fall Drive goal, and we still need to raise $340K
While we’re wrapping up our drive programming, we're not done yet! We have some exciting national events lined up that you won't want to miss. Stay tuned for more details below!
The registration deadline for MMMC is extended until October 15 [[link removed]] !!!! We are also thrilled to offer a one-time invitation to all 36-37 RG alum members and limited availability (seven registration spots) for 38+ RG alums! Be sure to register today to hold your spot.
Last week, I had the opportunity to join the RG of Canada—Resource Movement ( check out their website! [[link removed]] )— for their membership gathering in Toronto. Did y’all know there are people like us organizing young people with wealth and class privilege in Canada, Germany, the UK, Scandinavia, and France?! RG, which is the most established of these organizations, has served as a model. Resource Movement is maybe the most established of our sister organizations, with a full-time staff member and talks of a second coming soon! Resource Transformation/rtrb in Germany is just a couple of years old and has a campaign underway. There are folks in France and Scandinavia who are working on putting together praxis groups. And there’s a praxis group currently incubated by the Australian Communities Foundation. Collectively. We have quarterly calls called RX to support and learn from each other.
In addition to our mission, what connects us is that all our organizing is rooted in extractive economies, where global wealth redistribution is a responsibility to those dispossessed by colonialism in all its forms. While our languages and cultures may vary, our work is so much more interconnected than separate. We all know our stake in ending personal and philanthropic wealth hoarding to ensure the ushering in of the new, transformative economy we dream of.
At RG, we’re committed to using this knowledge to build a stronger movement. At MMMC this year, Thousand Currents will be leading a workshop plotting in real time the intersections of personal timelines and the history of philanthropy to help RGers understand how our own experiences are shaped by broader historical and social conditions, and explore the responsibilities and opportunities for taking action grounded in repair. If you were looking for another reason to sign up for MMMC, it’s right here y’all [[link removed]] !
Next year marks RG’s 30th anniversary. Yes, RG goes wayyy back… our organizing started in 1995, and we became an independent nonprofit in mid-2015. As I excitedly shared insights and told stories with Resource Movement Canadian members about RG’s work, I was reminded of all the people who have made our organizing possible. I'm grateful to those who created RG’s legacy in 1995, those who refined and honed RG’s organizing project in the 2000s, and those who laid down the infrastructure and built trusting relationships to establish RG’s place in the movement ecosystem. I left Toronto feeling thankful for the rad organizing that came before me and and especially proud of the young people in the U.S., Canada, and many other places who are currently carrying the torch forward. Our collective organizing, near and far, is a powerful force in ending wealth hoarding in our lifetime.
