Cheyenne, October 9, 2024 -
At the September 19, 2024 board meeting the Wyoming Beef Council (WBC) members unanimously elected Kahla Mills from Gillette as the 2025 board chair. Kahla began her current term as a WBC member in July of 2022 and she is eligible for reappointment to a second term in July of 2025.
Kahla represents the Council as a producer of range cattle. The Council is comprised of five members, who are appointed by Wyoming’s Governor. The members set priorities for the WBC, determine funding allowances and evaluate programs. They represent all segments of beef production within Wyoming including range cattle, dairy cattle and feedlots. WBC programs are funded by the $1-per-head beef checkoff collected on all Wyoming cattle when they are sold.
In addition to being a cow/calf producer, Kahla and her husband also run a fencing business. Being a member of the Wyoming Beef Council is one in a long list of Kahla’s volunteer positions that not only give back to her community and the beef industry, but also provide leadership in local, state and national organizations that set the pace for the industry.
Kahla is an active member of the Campbell County CattleWomen and a lifetime member of the Wyoming CattleWomen. She served as president of the Wyoming CattleWomen from 2017 to 2019. She is also a lifetime member of the American National CattleWoman (ANCW) and served as vice chair of the board of directors from 2020 to 2021. Kahla is also a long-time member of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and served as the Region 1 Vice President from 2021 to 2023.
The Wyoming Beef Council’s mission is to benefit Wyoming’s beef community and economy by increasing domestic and international beef demand. All decisions about how and where beef checkoff dollars are spent, on both a state and national level, are made by beef producers at a grassroots level.
