Hi John,
An undercover investigation by Direct Action Everywhere activists has revealed horrific violence and unlawful animal cruelty at the nation’s largest supplier of lamb meat, Superior Farms, in Denver, Colorado.
Between July and August 2024, investigators placed hidden cameras at Superior Farms that captured extreme cruelty. Today, The Intercept's Natasha Lennard published an article about our findings at Superior Farms and the ballot measure that could put a stop to the violence. Read the article here.
The investigation exposed:
|
- Frightened lambs getting kicked and hit with paddles
- Lambs grabbed by their ears and tails and violently slammed to the floor
- Animals with broken legs forcibly dragged up a ramp to the electric stunner
- Workers laughing, spanking animals, and engaging in simulated sex acts as lambs are having their throats slit
- Lambs lifting their heads and thrashing in agony after having their throats cut multiple times

Several haunting clips show so-called “Judas Sheep." These are trained adult animals who live at Superior Farms and are used to gain the lambs' trust and lure them to their violent end. In heartbreaking footage, workers show affection to the "Judas Sheep," feeding them treats, brushing and petting them, and responding to them as they nuzzle like dogs– all while dozens of other lambs are seen following them to the kill floor. These moments of affection highlight how absurd it is to treat some animals with kindness while condemning others to be ripped apart for profit. The natural tendency toward compassion for animals is stifled in slaughterhouses, and slaughterhouse workers experience high rates of anxiety, depression, and aggression from the trauma of killing living beings every day.
Thank you to the brave Direct Action Everywhere investigators who captured this footage and are sharing it for the public to see. This investigation couldn’t have happened at a more important time. As Denver residents learn about the extreme violence hidden behind the walls of the Superior Farms slaughterhouse, they have an opportunity to vote to stop it.
Denver Initiated Ordinance 309, which was introduced by Pro-Animal Future, would ban slaughterhouses within Denver city limits, effectively shutting down this terrible facility and preventing such cruelty from ever happening in Denver. Please spread the word about Superior Farms' extreme cruelty to animals at this critical moment.
These lambs need your help now.
In solidarity,
Cassie
