    Call for Abstracts: Research and Policy Insights about the Opioid Crisis

    Health Affairs is planning a theme issue on research and policy insights about the opioid crisis, to be published in September of 2025.

    We invite all interested authors to submit abstracts for consideration for this
    issue.

    Our submission portal for abstracts will open on November 12, 2024.

    In order to be considered, abstracts must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM Eastern time (U.S.), December 2, 2024.

    We will focus on policy strategies and research that models the impact of interventions on the opioid epidemic across several interrelated domains, including:

    • Prevention,
    • Harm reduction,
    • Treatment, and
    • Recovery support.

    Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

    It is Hispanic Heritage Month and we are highlighting Hispanic and Latino voices who have made an impact on health equity and policy.

    In a December 2023 article, Pedro Bernal Lara and coauthors published research to examine public hospital discharges and mortality for conditions amenable to health care in four Latin American countries: Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. 

     

    Their findings suggest that at least 96,000 deaths could have been avoided if health care services in these regions had been maintained throughout the pandemic.
