Re: Early vote update

Today’s the first day of in-person early voting and ballot-by-mail voting in Arizona — one of our most consequential 2024 electoral priorities. We’re here with an update on four key things: 

Knowing the dates 
As a member of “Team Arizona,” we’re counting on you to help make sure everyone you know in the state — and everyone they know — is aware of and talking about these key dates: 

It’s so important that we help folks — especially sporadic voters who we really need to turn out — make their plans to vote. If voters aren’t aware that they can vote early, or aren’t thinking about their plan for Tuesday, November 5th, it’s possible they could miss their chance to cast their ballot. 

You can make sure voters know how — and when! — to cast their ballot. Donate to help get out the vote in key races across the country.

Flipping the chambers
As a reminder, in Arizona, Republicans hold just a two-seat majority in BOTH the state House and Senate. A top elections expert has ranked both state legislative chambers as toss-ups. If we can help get out the vote and win a majority in both chambers, we can strengthen the state’s redistricting process.

You can help establish key firewalls against Republican anti-democracy agendas across the country. Contribute to make sure priority races have the resources they need.

Unseating election deniers 
A recent report from Democracy Docket, leveraging data from Public Wise’s Election Thread Index, identified THIRTY THREE election deniers up for reelection in Arizona in November:

• 9 state senators 
• 16 state representatives
• 2 county recorders 
• 6 members of the County Board of Supervisors 

According to the Democracy Docket, all of these candidates currently hold public office and “have publicly taken actions and positions that denied or attempted to overturn the results of an election, or undermined the results of an election.” 

Arizonans deserve better representation than elected officials who refuse to protect the very foundations of our democracy. You can help protect our electoral process. Chip in to help elect pro-democracy leaders across the country.

Understanding the stakes in the State Supreme Court
There are two big things going on here: 

First, two of seven seats are up for retention. We’re supporting a massive organizing effort underway to oust two extreme judges who recently voted to uphold a 19th-century abortion ban and replace them with pro-democracy leaders who believe in protecting our fundamental freedoms.

And second, there is a ballot initiative, Proposition 137 — the Judicial Accountability Act of 2024 — that would end term limits for state supreme and appellate court judges. It would essentially cancel future elections for these seats. 

And get this, Prop 137 would be retroactive! 

That means if Prop 137 passes, the results of any election this November that unseats a current state supreme court justice would be nullified. So if Prop 137 passes, the conservative majority in the state supreme court “freezes” in place. 

It’s an enormous abuse of power, and it’s no coincidence it was introduced this year. Help make it clear: A "no" vote opposes ending term limits. A "yes" vote on Prop 137 takes power away from voters after they cast their ballots. You can help fight back against extreme MAGA leaders who are doing whatever they can to maintain power.
