Indivisibles --

The Supreme Court is back in session and kicked off the new term with fresh attacks on our reproductive rights.

As one of their first acts, the MAGA justices allowed Texas emergency rooms to continue denying abortions when a patient’s health is in serious jeopardy -- a clear violation of federal law. By denying the Biden administration’s appeal in the matter, SCOTUS is continuing to put religious ideology ahead of the lives and health of women and others who can get pregnant.

The Supreme Court took a related case last term, you may remember, but ultimately sent it back to the lower courts. Many (including us) saw that as a delay tactic and assumed the Supreme Court would ultimately wait until after the election to issue a ghastly decision forcing more women to bleed out in hospital parking lots. And, what we’ve seen this week suggests that exactly such a ruling is coming -- when Trump’s handpicked justices deem it politically safe.

Donald Trump and JD Vance often brag about “leaving it to the states” when it comes to abortion rights, but this is the real impact -- allowing gerrymandered legislatures and non-elected judges to enforce deeply unpopular bans, ripping healthcare decisions away from patients and doctors, and sacrificing lives

The only way to protect our rights from Trump and Justices Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Roberts, and Barrett is to elect a Democratic trifecta capable of codifying reproductive freedom and reforming this deeply compromised court. Here are four ways you can make an impact right now:

  1. Get Loud: The next president may have the opportunity to nominate multiple Supreme Court justices and countless lower court judges, potentially leading to hundreds of anti-abortion rulings that could endanger women’s lives for decades to come. We know that the more voters understand Republicans’ plans to ban abortion, the less likely they are to support them. You can help get out the word with our Donald Did This toolkit
  2. Talk to Your Neighbors: If you haven’t signed up for Neighbor2Neighbor yet, now is the time! This innovative canvassing program connects you with ten like-minded neighbors to discuss the critical stakes of this election. It’s proven to be twice as effective as traditional canvassing, and you can do it on your own schedule. Check if Neighbor2Neighbor is available in your area, and if it is, sign up today.
  3. Call Voters in Battleground States: If Neighbor2Neighbor isn’t available in your area or you want to do even more, we still need your help! Join our weekly phonebanks targeting key states and districts. We’ll reach out to voters who are likely to support pro-choice candidates but need that extra push to make it to the polls. You can find details about the next phonebank here.
  4. Chip in to Support These Efforts: Grassroots organizing is how we’re going to win, and grassroots support is how we’re going to fund it. If you’re in a position to give, please chip in today

Friends, we shouldn’t have to dread each new Supreme Court session. We shouldn’t have to wake up on decision days with a pit in our stomach as we await the fresh hell these justices are going to unleash upon us. We shouldn’t have our pregnancies surveilled by state governments, we shouldn’t be forced to cross state lines to access essential care and we shouldn’t have politicians (elected or in robes) making personal medical choices for us.

But the future we deserve is within reach. We’re so close to leaving this nightmare behind us. With 27 days left until Election Day and voters already casting their ballots across the country, now is the time to keep fighting. When we fight, we win.
