Dear John,Long, complicated, important, and even critical.
That's the best way to describe the ballot that will land in your mailbox next week .
My name will be on it, and I would very much appreciate your support. But that's not why I am writing to you today. Instead, I am going to pour my heart out and tell you about another question on this year's ballot: measures I-2117 — the measure that would repeal the Climate Commitment Act.
Here's the short, executive summary:
Please,
VOTE
NO
On I-2117.
Now, let me tell you why:
We can do our part . We are so far beyond a debate about the harmful effects of climate change — simply tune into the news every night! Climate Change is real, and its effects are costing lives, livelihoods, and our future. This is why we created the Climate Commitment Act; to reduce carbon pollution and to make Washington state a national model on how to fight climate change. We should not go back.
Green jobs are good jobs . We are transitioning to a green economy, and that means job creation. From windmills and solar panel production to hydrogen hubs and new green manufacturing, reducing carbon pollution creates jobs . We should not give that up.
Washington state is a good leader, and we can't become a bad example. The truth is the eyes of the nation are on us. If we go back on our commitment to securing clean air and water by passing I-2117, it will send a new message to other states: climate action isn't worth it . Passing I-2117 will not only take Washington State backward, but it will also take the entire country backward.
So, please VOTE NO on I-2117.
Gratefully,
Denny
Oh! And P.S. please remember to fill in the box next to my name. We still have a lot of work to get done.
